Sherwin Herbert was born into very humble circumstances in the Philippines. He was 4th of 10 children of Henry and Felipa Herbert.
He immigrated to the United States in 1970. He couldn't afford to buy a ticket so he signed up as a Merchant Marine and worked for his passage to the United States. He never forgot his humble roots, and once he was established he often went out of his way to help people in need.
He was devoted to his faith as a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo and was a Deacon and Area Leader. He happily shared his faith with friends and family.
He worked first for Bank of America for 15 years and later as a mechanic for the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency for 20 years. He worked mostly maintaining the cable car line.
He was well known for sharing jokes and silly stories and was often the life of the party. He loved music and often entertained people at parties with his singing.
He would ask us not to mourn his death, but to celebrate his life. He would remind us to be true to our faith, to remember him by the laughter and love he brought to our lives and to follow his example by helping those in need.
He leaves behind a large grieving family; wife, Anita, daughter Annalissa, son John Edward, daughter in law Eva, granddaughters Eloisa Mae and Jessica Nicole as well as brothers, Joseph, Rufo, Angelo and sisters Margaret, Nanette and Rita as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. He was well loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed.
1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
